About

I started publishing journals, activity books, and puzzle books during the summer of 2020 in the hope of supplementing my retirement income. Sales were not very good mainly due to my lack of graphic design skills. I took about six months off and spent the time researching everything I could find about producing low-content books on KDP determined to make self-publishing work. I also picked up some books on graphic design, studied, and practiced.

At the beginning of 2021, I started uploading books again, primarily puzzle books, and sales were greatly improved. I was selling one or two books a day in January and sales picked up all during the year. Looking back at my older books, I couldn’t believe how bad the covers were – I thought they looked pretty good at the time 🙂

I’m not earning six figures a year YET but I expect 2022 to be a great year for my self-publishing earnings. Self-publishing is an ongoing learning process and I continue to learn and improve. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme but it can replace a full-time income if you keep working at it.

It’s my goal to outline what I’ve found most helpful and document the processes I use in creating my books. Look for future articles here detailing the step-by-step process in self-publishing and marketing your own books here. I’ll also share what I’ve learned about graphic design and share some helpful educational resources.
